Colourful introductions:

Go around the group and introduce yourselves. Then go around again with everyone sharing their answer to the first question, before progressing to the next one. Continue in this manner with everyone answering one question at a time.

  • What colour represents what your summer was like?
  • What colour represents how you are feeling about uni this year?
  • What colour represents your personality in some way?
  • What colour represents where you are spiritually at the moment?

Reach Out

Curiosity is a great habit to cultivate. And the beginning of a new year at uni is a great time to start cultivating habits!

Curiosity is an aspect of wonder and praise. We want to investigate those things we admire. As such, we should be curious about God and his world, including other people.

How might you foster and demonstrate curiosity about God?
How might you foster and demonstrate curiosity about your classmates?

Pray for one another, that God will stir in you an interest to know him and other people better. Ask God for an opportunity (and courage) to take initiative in saying hello, and starting a conversation with a classmate.

Dig In

1.

What helps you to know someone really well?
How do you know when someone else really knows you?

2.

Do you think it is easy or hard to know God? Why?

Read these verses from John.

John 1:18 (NIV)

18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

John 20:30-31 (NIV)

30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

3.

What reasons did John give for writing his biography of Jesus?

4.

What are your hopes and expectations for this Grow Group? What are you hoping for as you dig into John's account about Jesus together?

Look Up

  • Thank God that he wants us to know him, and that he has made himself known to us in Jesus.
  • Pray that as your Grow Group meets together, you will be able to get to know each other well, and help each other grow in knowing God more deeply.
